Get ready for a spine-tingling October! As Halloween approaches in 2023, there’s no better way to celebrate the season of scares than by diving into a curated list of horror movies that will send shivers down your spine. But not just any horror movies – we’ve put together a chilling selection of films currently available for free on Amazon Prime, and even one that you can watch on Freevee with a few commercials thrown in.

Now, before we get into the eerie details, let’s establish the ground rules. If you’re like me and prefer your horror without the gruesome torture scenes found in movies like “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” then you’re in the right place. We’ll be steering clear of those.

Speaking of preferences, I have a soft spot for classics like “Event Horizon” (1997), “Halloween” (1978), “Trick ‘r Treat” (2007), and the timeless “Night of the Living Dead” (1990). If these films send chills down your spine too, you’re in for a treat because our list is filled with movies that capture that same spine-tingling essence.

Now, here’s a little surprise I stumbled upon while preparing this list – it seems the “found footage” genre has quite the presence this year. Don’t let that discourage you, though, because the entries on this list are handpicked as great horror movies, even in an oversaturated subgenre. And for those of you who, like me, weren’t thrilled by “Cloverfield” (2008) or “The Blair Witch Project” (1999), fear not – those two won’t make an appearance here.

But wait, there’s more! If you’re still hungry for horror after devouring this list, don’t forget to check out my “Watch List” on Amazon Prime for additional chilling suggestions.

The Horror Movies are released from the humorous, starting October 1st, to the scariest, being released on October 31st.

The Murder Network (2022)

The only Documentary on this list, “The Murder Network” (2022), directed by an ensemble of talented filmmakers, is a gripping and atmospheric historical thriller set against the backdrop of Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II. Based on true events, the film tells the chilling story of a serial killer who takes advantage of the chaos of war to commit heinous crimes, resulting in a race against time to bring him to justice.

The film immerses viewers in the grim and perilous atmosphere of 1942 Paris under Nazi occupation. As the city grapples with the horrors of war, a sinister figure emerges in the form of Dr. Marcel Petiot (portrayed by an effectively menacing actor), a psychotic doctor who poses as a resistance operative. Petiot exploits the desperation of those seeking refuge from the Nazi regime, targeting Jews, criminals, and underground partisans who are most vulnerable.

One of the film’s notable strengths is its ability to convey the historical and emotional weight of the era. The bleak and oppressive atmosphere of wartime Paris is meticulously recreated, transporting the audience to a time of fear, uncertainty, and moral ambiguity. The film effectively conveys the moral dilemmas faced by both the French police and the Gestapo in their pursuit of justice, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.

The ensemble cast delivers strong performances, with the film’s characters representing a wide range of perspectives and motivations. The moral ambiguity surrounding certain characters and their choices adds depth to the story and raises thought-provoking questions about collaboration, resistance, and survival in a time of crisis.

“The Murder Network” skillfully builds tension and suspense as the body count rises, with the dual pursuit by the French police and the Gestapo creating a palpable sense of urgency. The film’s direction and cinematography capture the dark and shadowy streets of Paris, providing a visually captivating backdrop for the unfolding drama.

While the film successfully creates a compelling narrative, some viewers may find that it leaves certain aspects of the true story unexplored or underdeveloped. Additionally, the film’s pacing can feel uneven at times, with certain scenes dragging while others are filled with intense action.

In conclusion, “The Murder Network” (2022) is a gripping and thought-provoking historical thriller that delves into the disturbing and little-known true story of Dr. Marcel Petiot’s wartime crimes. It succeeds in immersing viewers in the atmosphere of Nazi-occupied Paris and raises important questions about morality and justice in times of extreme crisis. With strong performances and a captivating setting, it offers a compelling narrative that will resonate with fans of historical thrillers and true crime dramas. If you’re looking for a film that combines historical authenticity with psychological tension, “The Murder Network” is a worthy watch.

I really suggest watching this true history horror movie over many of the other “serial killer” reenactment movies that over-saturate the genre. With that said, I decided to make a print that is again useful, although it is not medical grade so, probably not so useful. This 13mm Flux Syringer Plunger is designed by Evan_VW on thingiverse.
